Area AB

Included in the early seasons within the broad scope of the Domestic Quarter were three trenches (A3, A6 and B) excavated in 1988-1989. In time it was clarified that they were separated by a road from Area S (at the time referred to as the Stoa) to their south-east and from the Housing Insula directly to their north. Initially they had been referred to in the inventory as Area A, but when this was applied to the excavations around the Acropolis in 2006, they were re-named as Area AB.

Several fieldstone walls emerged but no complete room was revealed. Two phases were evident in the form of floors.

Artefacts excavated were all associated with the Seleucid period. They have been claimed to be consistent with domestic occupation but not enough has been excavated to prove this.
